Unless otherwise noted, all of the information concerning
Spiritual Gifts has been compiled by me, John Lounsberry.
It is my desire that you will benefit from this information.
My first introduction to a Biblical teaching on Spiritual
Gifts was in a leadership conference of Basic Youth
Conflicts on the campus of UCLA in 1971. Since then, I have
come across other Bible teachers who have added their insight to my
understanding of the subject.
The material presented here is a compilation of over thirty years
of study and personal experience. Any place where an author or teacher
is quoted directly will be noted with quotation marks and
an acknowledgement of their contribution.
I would like to especially thank Jackson Snyder, for
allowing us to use his Spiritual Gifts Survey.

GIVING
The motivational gift of giving has often been misunderstood. There have been instances where
those individuals with gifts of prophecy and exhortation in a local assembly, would be urging
fast action on the implementation of a particular project. However, an individual with the gift
of giving would urge caution and would insist on knowing how everything would be paid for.
Unfortunantely, some people would conclude that the person with the motivational gift of
giving was not "spiritual". Their misunderstanding of faith, caused them to conclude that
"walking by faith" meant that they should, as it were, plunge off into "the abyss of
uncertainty" and "trust God" to pull them through.
GOD HAS A BETTER PLAN
A good operational definition of faith is, "determining God's will and then acting upon it".
Very seldom will God lead either an individual or a fellowship into making unwise decisions.
Of course, there is always the possibility that He may direct that you move in a direction that
some might think of as being foolish.
This is why it is so important that we learn to "hear" God's voice and know how to respond.
This is the reality of "walking by faith".
Once we understand the system of Motivatiomnal Gifts that God has placed in the church,
we can "seamlessly" move through the total process of functioning as a "living body".
The motivational gift of giving is important in keeping "balance" in the body.
The individual with the motivational gift of giving will often be able to "make money".
That individual will then quietly give to ministries or individuals who are operating in a
balanced way.
There are some guidelines that most church leaders agree on in regard to giving. Four points
to remember that are most often mentioned are as follows:
- Do not love riches
- Give for the right reason
- Make giving your reason for gaining wealth
- Keep your spiritual life a constant walk with God.
