Christian yellow page directory Unless otherwise noted, all of the information concerning Spiritual Gifts has been compiled by me, John Lounsberry. It is my desire that you will benefit from this information. My first introduction to a Biblical teaching on Spiritual Gifts was in a leadership conference of Basic Youth Conflicts on the campus of UCLA in 1971. Since then, I have come across other Bible teachers who have added their insight to my understanding of the subject. The material presented here is a compilation of over thirty years of study and personal experience. Any place where an author or teacher is quoted directly will be noted with quotation marks and an acknowledgement of their contribution. I would like to especially thank Jackson Snyder, for allowing us to use his Spiritual Gifts Survey. |
SUBMISSION TO AUTHORITYSubmission to authority is a basic tenet of faith that, unfortunantely, is often overlooked. We will offer here, a brief overview of what "Submission to Authority" is and why it is so important. We will have an in depth coverage of "Submission to Authority" in the Christian Growth Seminar There is one God who has revealed Himself in three areas of function. God, as Father, sent Jesus, as Son. Then Jesus, as Son, sent Holy Spirit who would "guide us into all truth". Rather, all three work together to accomplish the same goal. As one succeeds, they all succeed as One. God has given us a picture of this heavenly relationship in the institution of marriage. It was not by happenstance that the husband and wife become one entity. God has purposefully ordained this to be so. Just as there is one God who is manifest in different areas of function, the husband and wife form one entity in the spirit realm. God has created the male to be the husband and the female to be the wife. Question - "Who is smarter? Who is better? Who has more potential?" Just as there is no strife in God, so should there be no strife between the husband and wife. As one succeeds, they both succeed. The next question is what happens when the husband and wife have children? We know that the child must be instructed, but we also know that it is possible for a child to have more of a capacity for learning than does the parent. However, that does not mean that God would love the child more than the parent. Nor does it mean that the parent is not the established authority over the child. So how is the chain of command established and how does it work? Quite simply, the husband and father is the established authority in the family. He is not to be dictatorial and not get counsel from the wife. Rather, they are to be submitted to each other, each desiring the best for the other.
Once you begin the maturation process of the Christian life, you will come "face to face" with the need to submit to those in authority over you. According to scripture, the one over you in authority is not determined by gender, race, or intelligence. Rather, that determination is made by the areas of responsibility that different people have. For instance, the owner of a business may have an employee who works for him. In the setting of that business, the employer is the one in authority. It is the employer's right to make decisions and give directions that will be expected to be followed.
